Quincy Whitney was the primary arts and cultural news reporter for the Boston Sunday Globe New Hampshire Weekly for fourteen years. She is the author of Hidden History of New Hampshire (Acadia, 2008) and American Luthier: Carleen Hutchins—the Art and Science of the Violin (ForeEdge, 2016), selected by PEN America as one of ten best biographies of 2016. Today she writes a weekly Thursday cultural news column Quincy’s Quill for The Telegraph in Nashua, New Hampshire, where she lives with her husband Eli.
Whitney was a Eugene O’Neill Critic Fellow at the 1988 National Playwrights Conference and a two-time Salzburg Seminar Fellow—”The Contemporary Novel” (1998) and “Biography as a Mirror on Society” (2006) in Salzburg, Austria. Whitney was also a two-time Metropolitan Museum of Art Research Fellow affiliated with the Musical Instruments Department, (2004-6) which houses one of seven violin octets made by pioneering violinmaker Carleen Hutchins. Prior to that, she was Newsletter Editor for the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen and the American Textile History Museum. She is a graduate of Wake Forest University.
